Cuba Protests Exclusion from Terrorism DebateReprinted from Daily Granma UNITED NATIONS, December 20.— Cuba lodged a protest Wednesday over the UN Security Council’s refusal to allow it to participate in a debate on terrorism, adding that this decision confirms the urgent need for profound reform in that body. Ambassador Rodrigo Malmierca highlighted the importance Cuba puts on fighting terrorism and recalled the island’s prior attendance at these quarterly meetings, reported Prensa Latina. "We have been informed that it has been decided to use a new format in which only Committee presidents will be allowed to address the meeting," noted Cuba’s letter of protest which Malmierca asked the Security Council to circulate. The diplomat also requested that members receive the address that he was to pronounce on the subject, with detailed information on acts of terrorism against Cuba carried out by individuals and organizations that operate under the protection of the United States government. |
Protesta Cuba exclusión en debate sobre terrorismoReimprimado de Granma Diario NACIONES UNIDAS, 20 de diciembre.— Cuba protestó hoy la negativa del Consejo de Seguridad a permitirle participar en un debate sobre terrorismo, y afirmó que esa decisión confirma la necesidad de una reforma urgente y profunda de ese organismo de Naciones Unidas. Apunta PL que una carta al Consejo, firmada por el embajador Rodrigo Malmierca, destaca la importancia que la isla concede a las cuestiones relacionadas con el combate al terrorismo, y recuerda que ha venido participando en esas reuniones trimestrales sobre el tema. Sin embargo, se nos ha informado que en esta ocasión se ha decidido un nuevo formato para la reunión, en la que solo harán uso de la palabra los presidentes de los Comités, expresa la misiva. El Embajador pidió al Consejo de Seguridad distribuir como documento oficial la carta y un anexo que contiene el discurso que debía pronunciar ante el máximo organismo de la ONU, en los que se ofrece una detallada información sobre el actuar terrorista contra Cuba por parte de varios individuos y organizaciones, así como sobre la protección cómplice que les brinda el Gobierno de Estados Unidos. |
