Declaration of the Committee of Relatives of the Victims of the Bombing of the Civilian Airliner in Barbados May 7, 2008 The people of Cuba, sensitive to the pain of the relatives of the innocent victims of September 11 shared, as no other people in the world, in the grief and the feelings that gripped all US citizens at the time. As a nation, Cuba has not had a moment’s rest in over half a century, shaken by the constant fear of enduring new acts of terrorism. Shockingly, the terrorists who have murdered over 3,478 Cubans walk the streets of Miami free of all care. One of them even boasts of his actions and declares that his crimes do not rob him of a wink of sleep. This monster, responsible for the deaths of citizens in three different continents, is named Luis Posada Carriles. On May 8th, it will be a year since he was set free in the United States, a country that claims to be the leader of a crusade against terrorism. The government of the United States fails to meet the treaties for the struggle against terrorism it has signed by failing to try Luis Posada Carriles as terrorist. The government of the United States violates the extradition treaty it signed with Venezuela in 1922 by ignoring the request of the sister nation of Venezuela to try this notorious terrorist and fugitive from justice in Venezuela. There is no shortage of moral reasons to demand the trial of the monster who ended the lives of our relatives. We feel genuine pride at being the children of a revolution that has preached respect towards human life through example. This past May 6th marked 10 years since our revolutionary government alerted the Clinton administration, through Nobel Prize laureate Gabrial Garcia Marquez, of terrorist plans targeting commercial airliners. This timely forewarning spared us the tears of new, orphaned children, children who would have cried, as we did, over the death of our parents. It pains us to know that five anti-terrorist activists, responsible for this opportune and life-saving alert, are unjustly imprisoned in US jails. It is absurd that the mastermind behind the worst crime against civil aviation ever to be perpetrated in the hemisphere should be free in Miami, while federal security organizations, conscious of the extreme danger he represents, have barred him from travelling in US commercial airliners. Posada Carriles, a confessed murderer and active terrorist, is given the freedom denied the five Cuban anti-terrorist activists. Today, before the international community, we affirm once again that we shall not rest a minute in our demand for justice and that this criminal, who shows no remorse over his terrorist past, be brought to justice. We demand that the government of the United States, if it is unwilling to try the notorious terrorist, accept his extradition to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. We demand that, if it is unwilling to meet its international commitments, the government of the United States publicly recognize that Posada Carriles is a terrorist it is duty-bound to protect. This past May 2nd, the Miami-based Cuban-American mafia feted the monster, whom they referred to, significantly, as the "Champion of Freedom". Mr. Bush, put all hypocrisy aside and stop lying to your people. Acknowledge, once and for all, that Posada Carriles is your terrorist-for-hire, that you require his terrorist services. On September 20th, 2001, you stated that unchecked terror can not only tear down buildings but also threaten the stability of legitimate governments. Mr. Bush, you should acknowledge, once and for all, that you need the type of terrorism your administration perpetrates against Cuba to go unchecked. We know the reasons behind this very well, you yourself admitted to them in a speech you delivered on October 24th last year, when you stated: "the key word in our future relations with Cuba is not ‘stability’ but ‘freedom’." More than three decades have elapsed since the abominable mid-air bombing of the civilian plane was perpetrated. Many of the fathers who survived their murdered children are no longer with us, having passed away with great pain in the hearts over the loss of their beloved child and the impunity that has surrounded the crime. We make our Commander in Chief’s recent declaration our own: "neither the living nor the dead" shall cease to demand that terrorist Luis Posada Carriles be brought to justice. Let no one harbor any doubts about this: humanity’s thirst for justice is on our side. WE DEMAND JUSTICE! |
Declaración del Comité de Familiares de las Víctimas de la voladura del avión civil en Barbados 7 de mayo de 2008 El pueblo de Cuba, solidario con el dolor de los familiares de las víctimas inocentes del 11 de septiembre comprendió, como ningún otro pueblo, las penas y los sentimientos por los que estaba atravesando el ciudadano norteamericano. Cuba como nación, no ha podido dormir tranquila ni un solo día en el último medio siglo, por la zozobra de ser objeto de actos de terror. Paradójicamente, los terroristas victimarios que han asesinado a más de 3478 cubanos, caminan tranquilamente por las calles de Miami y uno de ellos, se jacta de sus actos y afirma que sus crímenes no le impiden dormir como un bebé. Ese monstruo, responsable por la muerte de ciudadanos en tres continentes, se llama Luís Posada Carriles. El día 8 de mayo cumplirá un año de andar libre en los Estados Unidos; país que dice liderar una cruzada contra el terrorismo. El gobierno de Estados Unidos incumple con la letra de los tratados de lucha contra el terrorismo que ha firmado, al no enjuiciar como terrorista a Luís Posada Carriles. El gobierno de Estados Unidos irrespeta el tratado de extradición de 1922 firmado con Venezuela, al no acceder a la solicitud del hermano pueblo venezolano para procesar en su territorio a ese connotado terrorista y prófugo de la justicia en ese país. Nos sobran las razones morales para exigir el enjuiciamiento del monstruo que acabó con la vida de nuestros familiares. Sentimos genuino orgullo de ser hijos de una Revolución que ha predicado con el ejemplo del respeto a la vida humana. El pasado 6 de mayo se cumplieron 10 años de que nuestro gobierno revolucionario alertara a la administración del Presidente Clinton, por conducto del Premio Nobel Gabriel García Márquez, de que se fraguaban planes terroristas contra naves aéreas comerciales. La alerta oportuna impidió a tiempo que nuevos niños huérfanos lloraran, como lloramos nosotros, la pérdida de nuestros padres. Duele saber que en prisiones de los Estados Unidos se encuentran injustamente encarcelados cinco luchadores contra el terrorismo, que propiciaron con su oportuna información, este aviso salvador. No tiene sentido que el autor intelectual del más grande crimen contra la aviación civil en el hemisferio occidental esté libre en Miami, a pesar de que los organismos de seguridad federal, dada su extrema peligrosidad, le tienen prohibido viajar en naves áreas comerciales de ese país. Posada Carriles, el asesino confeso y terrorista en activo, sí puede disfrutar de la libertad que le es negada a los cinco cubanos luchadores contra el terrorismo. En este día, ratificamos ante la comunidad internacional que no cejaremos ni un instante en exigir que se haga justicia y sea procesado el criminal que no muestra arrepentimiento por su historial terrorista Exigimos del gobierno de Estados Unidos, que si no tiene la voluntad de procesar al connotado terrorista, acceda a que sea extraditado a la República Bolivariana de Venezuela. Exigimos del gobierno de Estados Unidos que si no va a cumplir con sus deberes internacionales, su gobierno reconozca públicamente que Posada Carriles es su terrorista, al cual no pueden abandonar. El pasado 2 de mayo organizaciones de la mafia cubanoamericana en Miami, agasajaron al monstruo, a quien de manera significativa calificaron como "Paladín de la Libertad". Sr Bush, basta ya de tanta hipocresía, basta ya que continúe engañando a su pueblo, reconozca de una vez por todas que Posada Carriles es su terrorista, que necesita de su terrorismo. El 20 de septiembre del 2001 usted afirmó que el terror sin respuesta no solo puede derrumbar edificios, sino amenazar la estabilidad de los gobiernos legítimos. Sr Bush, reconozca de una vez por todas que usted necesita que el terrorismo que practica su administración contra Cuba no tenga respuesta, conocemos muy bien las razones que lo motivan, usted lo confesó en el discurso que pronunciara el 24 de octubre del pasado año, ese día afirmó: "La palabra clave para nuestras relaciones futuras con Cuba, no es estabilidad. La palabra clave es libertad". Han pasado más de tres décadas del abominable crimen cometido contra un avión civil en pleno vuelo, muchos de los padres que sobrevivieron a sus hijos asesinados ya no están entre nosotros, ellos murieron con dos grandes dolores en sus almas, la pérdida del hijo querido y la impunidad que ha acompaño al crimen cometido. Hacemos nuestra la sentencia pronunciada recientemente por nuestro Comandante en Jefe, "los vivos y los muertos" no cejaremos ni un instante en reclamar que sea procesado el connotado terrorista Luís Posada Carriles. Que nadie lo dude, nos acompañan en esta justa causa las ansias de justicia de la humanidad. ¡EXIGIMOS JUSTICIA¡

On September 20th, 2001, when the generous and hard-working people of the United States were overcome with grief over the loss of thousands of their children following an abominable act of terrorism, during an address to a Joint Session of Congress and the American people, President George Bush declared: "Tonight we are a country awakened to danger..."
El 20 de septiembre del 2001, cuando el generoso y laborioso pueblo norteamericano estaba consternado por el dolor de haber perdido a miles de sus hijos como resultado de un abominable acto de terrorismo, el Presidente George Bush en el discurso que pronunciara ante una sesión conjunta del Congreso y el pueblo estadounidense sentencio: "…esta noche somos un país que despertó al peligro…"
