May 13, 2007
Reprinted from Cuban News Agency

Havana, May 14 (acn) Young people from Cuba and other countries will take terrorist Posada Carriles to the dock at a political and public trial beginning Monday at the Jose Marti Anti-imperialist Plaza, in front of the U.S. interest section in Havana.

The two-day trial will be led by Cuban young attorneys and judges, who will call more than 40 witnesses from different countries to testify against the notorious criminal.

Youths from Nicaragua, Venezuela, Panama and other countries, who are currently studying in Cuba, will provide testimonies on Posada's terrorist activities in their respective nations.

Italian Giustino di Celmo, the father of Fabio di Celmo, a victim of
the sabotage against the Copacabana Hotel in Havana, 1997, masterminded by Posada Carriles, will also be present at the hearing.

"We will show the world that he is one of the worst terrorists on the planet," said Julio Martinez, leader of the Young Communist League (UJC).

The international terrorist will also be tried for the horrible bombing in mid air of a Cubana jetliner off the coasts of Barbados, which claimed 73 innocent lives.

Venezuelan journalist Alicia Herrera will talk about the irrefutable
evidences linking Posada with plane sabotage and which are included in her book "Pusimos la bomba, ¿y qué?" (We Placed the Bomb...So What?)

Witnesses will expose Posada's participation in the Iran-Contras
scandal and his failed attempt to assassinate Cuban President Fidel Castro at the University of Panama's auditorium in 2000. They will also bring to light Posada Carriles´ collaboration with the former Venezuelan Intelligence and Prevention Services (DISIP), which used to be an instrument of repression against the Venezuelan revolutionaries.

Posada is currently free in Miami. The US government has neither moved to charge him for his terrorist crimes, nor extradited him to Venezuela where he escaped from prison.

The trial was organized by the Cuban General Attorney's Office, the People's Supreme Court, the Ministry of Interior and experts from the Cuban Foreign Affairs Ministry.
