Cuban Diplomat's Murder Recalled in New York

Sept. 30, 2010
Reprinted from Prensa Latina

United Nations, Sep 30 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Permanent Mission to the United Nations on Thursday recalled the murder of UN-accredited Cuban diplomat Félix García by terrorist Pedro Crispín Remón in 1980. The event occurred on September 11 of that year in Queens, New York. In the year 2000, the same perpetrator, along with terrorists Luis Posada Carriles and Gaspar Jiménez Escobedo and Guillermo Novo Sampol, participated in a plan to kill the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, in Panama.

A press release from the Cuban diplomatic representation also recalled that October 6 marks the 34th anniversary of the sabotage of a Cuban civilian airplane while flying over Barbados.

Posada Carriles was responsible for the attack on the Cubana de Aviacion plane that killed 73 people; he is still a fugitive of justice, and currently walks freely in the streets of the United States, along with his henchmen, the note said. In contrast, five Cuban antiterrorists have spent 12 years unjustly imprisoned in the United States for defending their people and the U.S. people from terrorist actions by individuals like Posada Carriles and his lackeys, emphasized the text.

The Cuban Five are Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González, imprisoned since 1998.

The communiqué stated that the continued imprisonment of the Five when self-confessed terrorists go free can only be explained by the double standard on terrorism applied by the U.S. government.
