Those protecting Posada today are the same individuals who conspired against Kennedy by Jean-Guy Allard
“IT’S the same gang,” confirms retired Division General Fabián Escalante Font, former head of Cuba’s intelligence services for many years, when asked if those protecting terrorist Luis Posada Carriles today in Miami belong to the same Cuban-American mafia family who conspired to assassinate Kennedy during the 1960s. For someone who has been investigating every aspect of the assassination of the U.S. president for many years, several of the individuals currently linked with the terrorist mechanism that provides support for Posada, were also members of Operation 40, set up by the CIA at the same time as the failed invasion at the Bay of Pigs in order to eliminate the leaders of the Cuban Revolution and crush their supporters. And among the CIA’s hired killers are several individuals linked to the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy in Dallas. Last March 1, at the Big Five Club in Miami, Posada presided over a banquet organized by the Alpha 66 terrorist organization, alongside Dionisio Suárez-Esquival, the self-confessed killer of former Chilean Foreign Minister Orlando Letelier, who was released by George W. Bush in 2001; and Ernesto Díaz Rodríguez, leader of the group and successor of Nazario Sargent, another Operation 40 henchman. “This is the terrorist group par excellence,” affirmed Escalante, referring to the organization funded by the CIA that is still active today - with offices in central Miami – and which benefits from the complacency and protection of the FBI and federal judges. A DEATH SQUAD WITHIN THE INVASION Escalante recalls that the individuals selected in Miami by Joaquin Sanjenis, ex-police chief when Carlos Prío was president of Cuba, included several individuals who are alive and well today and still active in the terrorist circles of South Florida. “Operation 40 was created as part of the preparations for the Bay of Pigs expedition, I believe it was at the end of 1960. It was the mercenary brigade’s police intelligence and counterintelligence apparatus. Sanjenis started to bring in former police officers, former oppressors, people closely linked to the terrorism executed in Cuba during the 1950s, with its repression and assassinations…” “The Operation 40 mission was planned to go into action behind the invasion and, in while the mercenaries were taking villages, these individuals would seize files and kill officials. Their first task was intelligence and counterintelligence and, after that, pure repression. They were returning to carry on with what they had done in ’58.” Following the defeat at Playa Girón – the so-called Bay of Pigs – Operation 40 was initially converted into a security apparatus for the Cuban-American mafia in Miami “until those individuals started to have economic power in the heat of Operation Mongoose.” “They were going to get a lot of money, the millions of dollars invested in the CIA’s so-called JM/WAVE base. By 1963, these people were beginning to transform themselves, at the same time as the Cuban-American mafia. That’s when they started lobbying, trying to impose a Cuba policy.” “At that time, they were closely linked to the whole subversive and secret structure of the U.S. secret police, the CIA, the FBI, Immigration and the DEA.” Escalante recalls how, at the end of 1960, all the planes taking weapons, military supplies, and food to the mercenaries in Guatemala and then to Puerto Cabezas in Nicaragua, returned to the United States “first, with blood plasma, a business operation set up by Cubans in Nicaragua, friends of the dictator Somoza. Then they brought whiskey from Central America. Later on, they brought marijuana and cocaine.” COVER FOR LEE HARVEY OSWALD And so it was that in April 1963, when Lee Harvey Oswald – Kennedy’s alleged assassin – turned up in New Orleans “to create a cover as a sympathizer of the Revolution by starting a support committee for Cuba – of which he was the only member. Its offices were in the same building as the Cuban Revolutionary Council, a CIA-backed counterrevolutionary organization. A FBI-funded fascist organization known as Cuba Democrática was also located in the office block.” “There is not the slightest doubt that there was a plan, a conspiracy…In New Orleans, the only thing that Oswald did was to act as a sympathizer of the counterrevolution and then as a sympathizer of the revolutionary government,” said Escalante, author of several books on the subject. Besides Posada, other individuals freely walking the streets of Miami today are: Félix Rodríguez Mendigutía, Che’s assassin; Antonio Veciana, founder of Alpha 66; Orlando Bosch, Posada’s accomplice in the sabotage of a Cuban passenger plane; Guillermo Novo Sampoll, linked to the murder of Chilean Foreign Minister Letelier; Virgilio Paz Romero and Jose Dionisio Suárez, who carried out that crime; Gaspar Jiménez Escobedo, who murdered Artagñan Díaz Díaz; Pedro Remón Rodríguez, who murdered Félix García Rodríguez and Eulalio Negrín, in New York; Jose Basulto and many more. “Alpha 66 was part of what the CIA called “autonomous operations,” which gave rise to a long list of terrorist attacks from the 1960s onward. The CIA assigned an officer to take care of them, establish targets, provide them with certain resources, money, weapons, explosives, and then peruse the newspapers later to find out the results.” IN VENEZUELA, POSADA WAS ALWAYS LINKED TO THE CIA AND DISIP In Venezuela, Posada was always linked to the secret police and the CIA, confirms Escalante. “He never left the DISIP. First he was a CIA agent. He worked as an advisor for the DIGEPOL and later founded the DISIP. Later, when the revolutionary resistance had supposedly been crushed, in the 1970s, he grew bored of being a torturer and was already turning his hand to business. He created a private police and paramilitary organization that would execute any action whatsoever.” And Joaquin Chaffardet, currently resident in the United States, who saved Posada with his ridiculous testimony during his trial at the U.S. immigration court. “Chaffardet was Posada’s lawyer for all those activities, for his enterprise. When Orlando Bosch arrived, he provided support but it was Posada Carriles who was established there. He had contact with Carlos Andrés Pérez. Posada’s the one who knew Pérez’ chief bodyguard, Orlando García.” “Remember that Orlando García was from Sanjenis’ group, from the Cuban police force…he was a gangster in the 1940s…” That group included other notorious figures such as Rafael “Chi Chi” Quintero, from the U.S. National Security Council…”and it was Quintero who said that if the truth about Kennedy’s death ever came out, it would be the biggest scandal in the history of the United States.” For Escalante, the individuals surrounding Luis Posada Carriles in Miami today, those who are providing him with logistic and financial support, are the very same “troop” who conspired to assassinate JFK during the 1960s. “They’re the same people,” he commented. “The same ones who went to Chile for the coup d’état against Salvador Allende and who offered themselves to Augusto Pinochet as thugs for the operation… Orlando Bosch, Dionisio Suárez, Aylwin Ross, the Novo Sampoll brothers, the same band who belonged to Operation 40.” “They’re the same ones involved in drug-trafficking in the 1970s…to such an extent that Sanjenis ended up dying in very mysterious circumstances. According to DEA declassified documents, Operation 40 adopted various names in order to remain secret and misinform people. Sanjenis died but the mechanism is still there… the same mechanism that was to develop terrorism against Cuba, even in the 1990s, when it supported the Cuban-American National Foundation.” “They’re the same people…” Born in Havana in 1940, Fabián Escalante Font directed State Security from 1976 to 1996, when he retired with the rank of Division General. Los que protegen hoy a Posada son los mismos que conspiraron contra Kennedy por Jean-Guy Allard “Es la misma pandilla”, contesta el General de División (r), Fabián Escalante Font, quien durante años fue jefe de los servicios de Inteligencia de Cuba, cuando se le pregunta si los que protegen hoy al terrorista Luis Posada Carriles en Miami pertenecen a la misma familia mafiosa cubanoamericana que, en los años 60, conspiró para asesinar a Kennedy. Para quien investiga desde hace años cada aspecto del asesinato del mandatario estadounidense, varios de los personajes que hoy siguen vinculados al mecanismo terrorista que da apoyo a Posada, se encontraban ya entre los miembros de la Operación 40, montada por la CIA paralelamente a la fracasada invasión de Playa Girón para liquidar a los dirigentes de la Revolución cubana y reprimir a sus partidarios. Y es entre estos sicarios de la CIA que aparecieron varios de los individuos vinculados al asesinato, en Dallas, de John Fitzerald Kennedy. El primero de marzo último, Posada presidió en el Big Five Club de Miami un banquete de la organización terrorista Alpha 66, al lado de Dionisio Suárez-Esquivel, el asesino confeso del ex ministro chileno Orlando Letelier —liberado por George W. Bush en 2001— y del propio jefe del grupo, Ernesto Díaz Rodríguez, sucesor de Nazario Sargent, otro esbirro de la Operación 40. “Esta es la mata de todos los terroristas”, señala Escalante acerca de la organización fundada por la CIA que sigue activa, con locales en el centro de Miami, beneficiándose de la complacencia e incluso la protección del FBI y de los fiscales federales. JUNTO A LOS INVASORES, UN ESCUADRON DE LA MUERTE Escalante recuerda que entre los individuos que fueron seleccionados en Miami por Joaquin Sanjenis, ex Jefe de Policia durante la Presidencia de Carlos Prío en Cuba, se encontraban varios individuos que siguen vivos y activos en los círculos terroristas de la Florida del Sur. “Cuando se empieza a preparar la expedición de Playa Girón, creo que es a finales del 60, se crea la Operación 40 que es el aparato policíaco de inteligencia y contrainteligencia de los mercenarios, de la brigada de invasores. Sanjenis comienza a traer a ex policías, ex represores, gente muy vinculada con el terrorismo que se usaba en Cuba en los años 50 con la represión, los asesinatos…” “La misión de la Operación 40 era venir detrás de los invasores y, en la misma medida en que esta gente fueran capturando poblados, iban a ocupar archivos, asesinar a oficiales. Tenían una tarea, primero de inteligencia y contrainteligencia, después puramente represiva. Venían a hacer aquí lo mismo que hacían en el 58”. Después de la derrota de Playa Giron —la llamada Bahía de Cochinos— la Operación 40 se convierte primero en un aparato de seguridad, en Miami, de la mafia cubanoamericana “hasta que esta gente empieza a tener un poder económico al calor de la Operación Mangosta”. “Van a tener mucho dinero, los millones de dólares que se invirtieron en la base de la CIA llamada JM/WAVE. Ya en el 63, esta gente empieza a transformarse al mismo tiempo que los elementos de la mafia cubanoamericana. Es cuando comienzan a tratar de hacer lobby, a tratar de imponer una política hacia Cuba”. “Están entonces muy vinculados con todo el entramado subversivo y secreto de la policía secreta norteamericana, la CIA, el FBI, la Inmigración y la DEA”. Escalante recuerda cómo a finales del 60, todos los aviones que llevaban las armas, los pertrechos, la comida a los mercenarios en Guatemala y luego por Puerto Cabezas en Nicaragua regresaban a Estados Unidos, “primero con plasma sanguíneo, un negocio que se hizo por cubanos radicados en Nicaragua, amigos del dictador Somoza. Se llevaban whisky por América Central. Después pasaron a la marihuana y la cocaína”. LE DAN A LEE HARVEY OSWALD SU COBERTURA Así fue como en abril del 63, cuando Lee Harvey Oswald —el supuesto asesino de Kennedy— aparece en la Nueva Orleans “para hacerse una cubierta de simpatizante de la Revolución, forma un comité de apoyo a Cuba —cuyo solo militante era él— en la misma oficina donde radicaba el Consejo Revolucionario Cubano, que era la organización de la contrarrevolución allí, de la CIA. Ahí también se encontraba una organización fascista fundada por el FBI que se llamaba Cuba Democrática”. “No cabe la menor duda de que ahí hubo un plan, un gran complot… En la Nueva Orleans, lo único que Oswald hizo fue actuar como simpatizante de la contrarrevolución y luego simpatizante del gobierno revolucionario”, comenta quien es autor de numerosos libros sobre este tema. Además de Posada, siguen exhibiéndose hoy en Miami, Félix Rodríguez Mendigutía, el asesino del Che; Antonio Veciana, fundador de Alpha 66; Orlando Bosch, cómplice de Posada en la destrucción de un avión civil cubano; Guillermo Novo Sampoll, asociado al asesinato del ex ministro chileno Letelier; Virgilio Paz Romero y Jose Dionisio Suárez, los ejecutores del crimen; Gaspar Jiménez Escobedo, asesino de Artagñan Díaz Díaz; Pedro Remón Rodríguez, asesino de Félix García Rodríguez y Eulalio Negrín, en Nueva York; Jose Basulto y otros más. “Alpha 66 es parte de lo que la CIA denominaba las operaciones autónomas que fueron el origen de una larga lista de acciones terroristas ya a partir de los años 60. La CIA les asignaba un oficial para que les atendiera, les planteaba los objetivos, les daba algunos recursos, el dinero, las armas, los explosivos y después se enteraba por los periódicos de los resultados”. EN VENEZUELA, POSADA SIEMPRE SIGUIÓ CON LA CIA Y LA DISIP En Venezuela, Posada siempre siguió vinculado a la policía secreta tal como se mantuvo con la CIA, rectifica Escalante. “Jamás abandonó la DISIP. Primero fue agente de la CIA. El mandado ahí como asesor de la DIGEPOL y después funda la DISIP. Luego cuando supuestamente está acabada la resistencia revolucionaria, a mediados de los 70, él se aburre de ser represor porqué ya se dedica a los negocios, y crea una organización de policía privada, paramilitar, que hace de todo.” Y Joaquin Chaffardet, hoy radicado en Estados Unidos, quien salvó a Posada ante los tribunales de inmigración norteamericano, con su testimonio descabellado. “Chaffardet era el abogado que Posada tenía para todas estas actividades, para su empresa. Cuando Orlando Bosch llega, lo que hace es apoyar pero quien está establecido ahí es Posada Carriles. Él tiene contacto con Carlos Andrés Pérez. Es él quien conoce al jefe de los escoltas de éste, Orlando García”. “Fíjese que este Orlando García era del grupo de Sanjenis, de la policía en Cuba… era de la tropa gansteril de los años 40…” Hubo entre éstos personajes tan importantes como Rafael “Chi Chi” Quintero, quien fuera del Consejo Nacional de Seguridad de Estados Unidos… “y fue él quien dijo que si se supiera toda la verdad sobre la muerte de Kennedy, Estados Unidos conociera el más grande escándalo de su historia”. Para Escalante, los personajes que rodean hoy a Luis Posada Carriles en Miami y que le dan el apoyo logístico y financiero son de la misma “tropa” que la que en los años 60 conspiró para asesinar a JFK. “Son la misma gente”, comenta. “Los mismos que van a Chile con el golpe de Estado contra Salvador Allende y que se ofertan a Augusto Pinochet como los matarifes de la operación… los Orlando Bosch, Dionisio Suárez, Aylwin Ross, los hermanos Novo Sampoll, toda esta tropa que perteneció a la Operación 40”. “Son ellos los que se metieron a finales de los 70 en el tema de la droga… a tal punto de que Sanjenis muere de una manera misteriosa. Según documentos desclasificados de la DEA, esta Operación 40 adopta varios nombres para desinformar. Sanjenis muere pero el mecanismo se queda… el mismo mecanismo que va a desarrollar todo el terrorismo contra Cuba, incluso en los años 90, en el cual se va a apoyar la Fundación Nacional Cubano Americana”. “Son los mismos…” Nacido en La Habana en 1940, Fabián Escalante Font dirigió la Seguridad de Estado desde 1976 hasta 1996 cuando pasó a retiro con los grados de General de División.
