Mirtha Rodriguez in Miami at the time of Antonio's resentencing hearing

Matanzas, 25 mar (AIN) Mirtha Rodriguez, the mother of Antonio Guerrero, one of the five Cubans incarcerated in the United States for over ten years now, highlighted on Thursday the gallantry of the antiterrorists and their hope for justice to be done.

During a meeting with participants in the 32nd edition of the National Cuban Radio Festival underway in this city, Mirtha, along with Elizabeth Palmeiro, the wife of Ramon Labañino, talked about the difficult moments lived during the days in which the re-sentencing hearings took place in Miami.

She recalled that the defense lawyer told the judge that it was a man and not a nation the one that was being tried, making reference to the political treatment of the case.

"They’re strong, full of life and hope. They don’t feel alone, but accompanied by their people, and by many persons from around the world who multiply solidarity so the US government sees that justice is done."

"I suffer a lot, but when I attend meetings like these, both in Cuba and abroad, and I see that the movement in favor of the fair cause we’re struggling for is increasingly growing, my strength also increases," she added.

Gerardo Hernández, René González, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino y Fernando González were the victims of political and biased trials, and have been in prison since September 1998 for monitoring terrorist actions perpetrated against Cuba by the extreme right in Miami.

The relatives of the Five thanked Cuban Radio for defending justice and broadcasting the need to continue the struggle for the definitive return of Gerardo, René, Tony, Ramón and Fernando to their homeland.

Matanzas, -(AIN) Mirtha Rodríguez, madre de Antonio Guerrero, uno de Los Cinco Cubanos presos por más de una década en Estados Unidos, destacó hoy la gallardía y esperanza de los antiterroristas por la justicia de su causa.

Durante un encuentro con participantes de la XXXII edición del Festival Nacional de la Radio Cubana, que sesiona en esta ciudad, Mirtha, junto a Elizabeth Palmeiro, esposa de Ramón Labañino, comentó los momentos difíciles vividos en los días en que celebraron en Miami las vistas de resentencia.

Viendo a Tony y su gallardía para recibir su sentencia, la emoción que sintió a ver a tantos amigos solidarios, estaba mirando a mis otros hijos, refirió esta mujer anciana y recordó que el abogado imputó a la jueza porque juzgaba a un hombre, no a una nación, refiriendo lo político del caso.

Mirtha destacó cómo la dignidad, amor y el honor los hizo crecer en ese momento, por la oportunidad que tiene un preso para salvar su vida, cuando la jueza pregunta si se arrepiente de algo, y ellos con gallardía aceptaron la resentencia sin claudicar, acotó la madre de Guerrero.

"Están fuertes, llenos de vida y esperanzas, agregó y resaltó la importancia de este momento en el cual no se sienten solos, sino acompañados por su pueblo y por muchas personas en el mundo que multiplican la solidaridad para lograr que el gobierno de Estados Unidos haga justicia."

"El sufrimiento, las lágrimas, eso lo tengo y no se aparta de mí," confesó Mirtha, "pero cuando voy a encuentros como éste, tanto en Cuba como en el exterior y veo que crece cada vez más el movimiento a favor de la causa justa por la que luchamos, me lleno de fuerzas," agregó.

Gerardo Hernández, René González, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino y Fernando González, fueron víctimas de juicios políticos y amañados, desde septiembre de 1998 permanecen prisioneros por monitorear acciones terroristas, perpetuadas por la extrema derecha de Miami contra Cuba.

Los familiares de Los Cinco agradecieron a la Radio Cubana por defender la justicia y trasmitir la necesidad de continuar la lucha por el regreso definitivo a la Patria de Gerardo, René, Tony, Ramón y Fernando.
