Ramon Labanino's Wife in Canada
Nov. 6, 2007 Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labanino, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Gerardo Hernandez, internationally known as the Cuban Five, were detained in 1998 for infiltrating right-wing anti-Cuba organizations based in Florida that have organized terrorist actions against the island over the last four decades. The men were charged with espionage and punished with extremely harsh sentences despite the antiterrorist nature of their mission. Invited by the Canadian Network on Cuba (CNC) and the Table de Since her arrival in Montreal on Friday, Palmeiro was interviewed by Radio Centre Ville and met with Francine Lalonde, federal deputy and head of the Foreign Relations Department of the Bloque Quebecois Party, who confirmed her decision to support the Cuban Five's cause. Palmeiro, along with Cuban deputy Silvia Garcia, visited Dawson College where they briefed the students on the biased judicial process and the injustices suffered by the Five. Likewise, the Cuban activists held talks with Jacques Letourneau, Letourneau manifested his solidarity with the Five and his support for the initiatives undertaken by the Table de Concertation and the Fabio Di Celmo Committee for the Five's freedom. As part of their program of activities, Palmeiro and Garcia met with the president of the National Federation of Professors of Quebec, Ronald Cameron, and were interviewed by journalist Lillian Boctor, from The Link newspaper. The visit to Montreal concluded with a meeting that brought together Canadian personalities such as scholar James Cockroft, lawyer Bill Sloan, and representatives of organizations in solidarity with Cuban in that city. Palmeiro and Garcia met Monday in Ottawa with Paul Fortis, official of the Committee for the Cuban Five's Freedom in Otawa-Gatineau, and talked with journalist Sasa Petricic, from CBC TV channel.

6 de noviembre de 2007 La Habana, 6 nov (AIN-RHC) Un intenso programa desarrolla en Canadá Elizabeth Palmeiro, esposa de Ramón Labañino, uno de los Cinco Héroes cubanos presos en EE.UU. por penetrar a grupos terroristas que organizan en la Florida acciones criminales contra Cuba. Invitada por la Red de Solidaridad anglófona Canadian Network on Cuba (CNC) y la Mesa de Concertación de solidaridad Quebec-Cuba (Red francófona), Palmeiro asistirá a la Conferencia de Solidaridad Rompiendo el Silencio, que se realizará del nueve al 11 próximos en Toronto. Desde su llegada a Montreal el pasado viernes, fue entrevistada por Radio Centre Ville y sostuvo un encuentro con Francine Lalonde, diputada federal y encargada de relaciones internacionales del Partido Bloque Quebequense, quien expresó su disposición de continuar apoyando la causa de Los Cinco. Palmeiro acompañada de Silvia García, funcionaria del Parlamento cubano visitaron el Colegio Dawson, donde informaron a estudiantes y profesores acerca del proceso y de la detención injusta que sufren René González, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González y Gerardo Hernández, hermanos de lucha de Ramón. Asimismo, sostuvieron un encuentro con Jacques Letourneau, consejero sindical adjunto del Comité ejecutivo de la Confederación de los Sindicales Nacionales, conformada por sindicatos, federaciones y consejos centrales que cubren todo el territorio de la provincia canadiense de Quebec y que integra a más de 300 mil miembros. Letourneau reiteró su solidaridad y apoyo a las iniciativas de la Mesa de Concertación y el Comité Fabio Di Celmo por la liberación de Los Cinco. Luego se reunieron con Ronald Cameron, presidente de la Federación Nacional de Profesores y Profesoras de Quebec. En otros encuentros con la prensa, Elizabeth y Silvia fueron entrevistadas por la periodista Lillian Boctor, del periódico The Link, de la Universidad Concordia, y nuevamente por Radio Centre Ville. Cerró el encuentro en Montreal una reunión con importantes personalidades, como el académico James Cockcroft, el abogado Bill Sloan y con representantes de la solidaridad y amigos de Cuba en esa ciudad. Este lunes se reunieron en Ottawa con Paul Fortis, directivo del Comité por la Liberación de Los Cinco en Ottawa-Gatineau; y posteriormente, con Sasa Petricic, periodista de CBC televisión. Para mañana está previsto que Elizabeth Palmeiro y Silvia García sostengan conversaciones en la Cancillería, se reúnan con otros miembros del Parlamento federal y ofrezcan una entrevista para el programa radial Punto de Encuentro de la Universidad de Carleton.
