A document demanding justice for the Cuban Five will be delivered today by the participants in the International Conference in Solidarity with Cuba to the US Interest Section in Havana.

Copies of the appeal will later be taken by trade union leaders to US embassies and consulates in their respective countries.

The document was the final agreement resulting from the annual conference in which 242 representatives of unions, and social and political organizations from more than 70 countries took part this year.

«Only people’s solidarity the will allow us to achieve justice, » said the president of the Cuban Parliament, Ricardo Alarcon, after explaining the situation of the Cuban Five and giving details about the release of terrorist Luis Posada Carriles in the US.

Alarcon said that the Cuban Five were sentenced for fighting against anti-Cuban terrorism, which was at least permitted —if not sponsored— by several US administrations. «The case of Luis Posada Carriles is the best proof that Cuba needed to be defended by itself, » he said.

«Posada Carriles has just presented a document proving his link with the CIA for more than 25 years. That text confirms what we have always said about him, he is the most loyal and consistent servant of the empire, someone they can always count on, » added Alarcon.

The president of the parliament said that this year can be decisive in the fight for the freedom of the Cuban Five, noting that on August 20, 2007 a hearing on the case is to be carried out, after which the Atlanta US Court of Appeals will reach a verdict.

Seventeen speeches were delivered during the meeting. Activists from all the continents urged people to continue fighting for the freedom of the Cuban Five and highlighted that they will make a greater effort to increase the number of supporters.
