A San Francisco woman was at the Unitarian Universalist Church Saturday to speak out against the imprisonment of a convicted Cuban spy. Gloria La Riva is angry that Fernando Gonzalez is being held at the federal prison in Terre Haute.
She and her group, the [National Committee to] Free the Cuban Five group, believe that the US is committing terrorist acts against Cuba and that Gonzalez was trying to stop them. "We have a responsibility to know of the terrorism that our government is supporting against Cuba," La Riva said.
Gonzalez and four other Cubans were arrested in Miami in 2001 for involvement with a Cuban spy ring. Gonzalez was arrested for conspiracy and failing to register as a foreign agent. |
