Solidarity with the Cuban Five redoubled in RussiaReprinted from Granma Internacional At a meeting of that organization’s leadership board, its president, Vadim Sayuchev, noted that activism increased throughout Russia during the most recent events organized worldwide in solidarity René González, Gerardo Hernández, Fernando González, Ramón Labañino and Antonio Guerrero. “A few days from the 48th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, all of us are concerned about opening up the path to truth and justice, so that these men can be freed,” he added. Regarding plans for activities in 2007, Sayuchev said they are committed to appropriately commemorating the 40th anniversary of the death in combat by Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara, who together with Yuri Gagarin was a founder of the Russia-Cuba Friendship Association. For his part, Cuban Ambassador Jorge Martí expressed thanks for the continuous expressions of friendship and solidarity with the island during 2006, both by the organization in Moscow and its regional affiliates. Prominent individuals present at the meeting included astronaut Yuri Romanenko. SPECIAL DISPLAY AT CARDENAS MUSEUM The Battle of Ideas Museum in Cárdenas, in the province of Matanzas, Cuba, is featuring a special exhibit as part of the worldwide activities organized to free the Five. According to a report by AIN, photographs and other items that comprise testimonials of international solidarity with the cause of Gerardo, Fernando, Ramón, René and Antonio are part of the display, which will be open until January. The items include a flag held up by a U.S. couple during a session of the Human Rights Commission in 2004, demanding justice for the Cuban Five, as they are known around the world. The museum’s Martí room includes a large display dedicated to the Five, and since its opening five years ago, has been visited by more than 15,000 people from 60 countries. |
Redoblan solidaridad con los CincoReimprimado de Granma Internacional Moscú, diciembre 27.— La Asociación de Amistad Rusia-Cuba redobla hoy esfuerzos en favor de la liberación de los cinco antiterroristas cubanos presos injustamente en Estados Unidos, informó Prensa Latina. Al intervenir en una reunión de la junta directiva de esta organización, su presidente, Vadim Sayuchev, destacó que el activismo se multiplicó en toda Rusia durante la actual jornada mundial de solidaridad con René González, Gerardo Hernández, Fernando González, Ramón Labañino y Antonio Guerrero. «A unos días del aniversario 48 del triunfo de la Revolución cubana, en todos nosotros está presente la preocupación por lograr que se abran paso la verdad y la justicia y sean liberados estos jóvenes», añadió. Sobre las proyecciones del trabajo en 2007, Sayuchev destacó que existe el compromiso de conmemorar dignamente el aniversario 40 de la caída en combate del comandante Ernesto Che Guevara, quien junto a Yuri Gagarin fundó la referida Asociación. Por su parte, el embajador cubano Jorge Martí, agradeció las permanentes muestras de amistad y solidaridad con la isla durante el 2006, tanto en Moscú como en las filiales regionales. Entre las personalidades asistentes al encuentro figuraba el cosmonauta Yuri Romanenko. MUESTRA ESPECIAL EN MUSEO DE CÁRDENAS EL Museo A la Batalla de Ideas exhibe una muestra especial dentro de la Jornada Mundial por la libertad de los Cinco. De acuerdo con un reporte de la AIN, fotografías y objetos que constituyen testimonios de solidaridad internacional con la causa de Gerardo, Fernando, Ramón, René y Antonio aparecen en la exposición, abierta hasta enero próximo. Entre ellos hay una bandera desplegada por un matrimonio estadounidense durante la sesión de la Comisión de Derechos Humanos en el 2004, exigiendo justicia para los Cinco, como son conocidos a nivel mundial. La institución cuenta en su sala martiana con un amplio sitio dedicado a los cinco héroes, y en su lustro de vida, ha sido visitada por más de 15 000 personas provenientes de unos 60 países. |

MOSCOW, Dec. 27.— The Russia-Cuba Friendship Association is redoubling its effort to free the five Cuban anti-terrorists unjustly imprisoned in the United States, Prensa Latina reports.
