Havana, Sept 26 (acn) The unjust incarceration of five Cuban antiterrorist fighters in the United States and the human rights violations committed against them and against their families were denounced during a rally held in New York on Tuesday.

The event was part of the ongoing worldwide campaign in solidarity with Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino and Rene Gonzalez, internationally known as the Cuban Five, who remain unjustly imprisoned in the United States nine years after they were detained for infiltrating terrorist anti-Cuba organizations based in Florida.

Hundreds of New Yorkers participated in the rally that was also attended by Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque, who is there for the 62nd period of sessions of the UN General Assembly; Lucius Walker, coordinator of Pastors for Peace; and Leonard Weinglass, one of the members of the defense team of the Cuban Five.

Addressing participants, Perez Roque thanked them for the increasing support of many solidarity groups and encouraged them to continue the struggle for the release of the Cuban heroes.

He also referred to the battle that the Cuban people wage against the criminal financial, commercial and economic blockade imposed by the government of the United States against Cuba for almost five decades, which has been repeatedly and overwhelmingly rejected by the UN General Assembly for many years now.

Representatives of some organizations in solidarity with Cuba and with the Five reiterated their demand for justice in the case of the Cuban anti-terrorist fighters and their families, particularly regarding Olga Salanueva and Adriana Perez, wives of Rene and Gerardo, respectively, whom Washington has repeatedly denied visas to visit their husbands in prison.

Nueva York, 25 sep (PL) Diversas organizaciones norteamericanas exigieron la libertad de cinco cubanos presos en Estados Unidos por combatir el terrorismo y condenaron las violaciones cometidas por Washington contra ellos.

En el acto celebrado en el marco de la jornada internacional de solidaridad con los Cinco, como se les conoce en el mundo, estuvieron presentes el canciller cubano, Felipe Pérez Roque, quien se encuentra participando en la Asamblea General de Naciones Unidas y el reverendo Lucius Walker, coordinador de Pastores por la Paz.

Durante el evento, se analizó la situación actual del caso y las diversas organizaciones reafirmaron su compromiso en la defensa de la justicia y los derechos humanos de los familiares de estas personas.

Leonard Weinglass, uno de los abogados de la defensa, informó al auditorio sobre la audiencia celebrada en la Corte de Apelaciones de Atlanta el pasado 20 de agosto y la situación jurídica del caso.

Al intervenir, el ministro de Relaciones Exteriores de Cuba agradeció a las numerosas organizaciones solidarias con la causa de René González, Gerardo Fernández, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González y Ramón Labañino por su creciente apoyo.

Asimismo, exhortó a continuar luchando hasta lograr su liberación y el regreso a la isla.

Pérez Roque también se refirió a la batalla que libra el pueblo cubano para enfrentar el bloqueo económico impuesto por la Casa Blanca.

El jefe de la diplomacia cubana resaltó el aislamiento de la administración de George W. Bush ante el generalizado apoyo de la comunidad internacional a la resolución que cada año aprueba la Asamblea General de la ONU en rechazo a ese asedio.

En horas de la mañana del mismo día, el presidente de Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, en su discurso en la Asamblea General de Naciones Unidas denunció las agresiones "de todo tipo" sufridas por el "heroico y noble pueblo cubano", y recordó a los Cinco patriotas cubanos presos en cárceles estadounidenses desde 1998 por luchar contra el terrorismo.
