Meeting Dedicated to Cuban Five To Be held in Miami
Dec. 5, 2008 HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 5 (acn) The organizations that make up the Alianza Martiana (Marti Alliance) based in Miami, has made a call for a meeting dedicated to the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters who have been imprisoned in US jails since 1998, that will take place in that American city, on December 7. A press release sent by Andres Gomez, co-founder of the Antonio Maceo Brigade in Miami, to ACN news agency, reads that the act commemorates the death of Cuba’s General Antonio Maceo, an important figure of the independence wars of the island. It will also pay tribute to all the Cuban men and women who have died for the independence of their homeland. The meeting will deal with the current state of the judicial process of the Cuban Five that has been placed under consideration of the Federal Supreme Court. Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino, Gerardo Hernandez and Fernando Gonzalez, known as the Cuban Five, have been imprisoned for more than ten years for having penetrated Miami-based anti-Cuba groups to try to stop the criminal actions against the Cuban government and people organized and conducted by those organizations. The event will be an opportunity to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution. Participants will also discuss actions to be conducted next year to have the US government lift the travel ban to Cuba, end the economic blockade of the island and eventually achieve the normalization of relations between the US and Cuba. The meeting will be held on Sunday afternoon, December 7 at a centrally located hotel in Miami.
