HOLGUIN.— The threat represented by Hurricane Paloma didn’t impede the show of solidarity for the Cuban Five on Friday as the Fourth International Colloquium to Free the Cuban Five and Fight Against Terrorism got underway in this eastern Cuban city.

Mirtha Rodriguez, mother of Antonio Guerrero, spoke with the participants from around the world that came to Holguin to support the battle against the injustice committed against the Cuban Five, imprisoned for more than a decade in the United States for gathering information on groups plotting terrorist acts against Cuba.

"This isn’t the time to cry or for cowardliness, it’s a time for struggle," said Antonio.

Vivian Rodriguez Gordin, president of the Holguin Province legislature, presented four of the foreign guests with the Province’s Coat of Arms: James Cockroft —an anti-US gringo as he calls himself—, Dimitris Dimis of Greece, and the couple Hector Brito and Denise Caron, residents in Canada, for their dedication and show of support for Cuba, the Revolution and especially as active champions of the Cuban Five cause.

More than 100 people from 35 countries of Europe, the Americas and Africa are participating at the Colloquium that began with the inauguration of a photo exhibition, sponsored by the Cuban Friendship Institute, followed by an interactive Internet Forum with input from lawyers, journalists and Cuban five relatives.
