Webmaster dedicates 100-mile run to the Five

Sept. 21, 2010
Special to www.freethefive.org

Steve Patt, webmaster for the National Committee to Free the Cuban Five (www.freethefive.org and on Facebook at /National-Committee-to-Free-the-Cuban-Five), this weekend completed a 100-mile run through the mountains of Southern Oregon which he dedicated to the Cuban Five. The run crossed over the top of three 7000-foot (2100-meter) peaks, with a total amount of climbing of more than 20000 feet (6100 meters). The run took 61-year old Patt 31 hours and 43 minutes, continuous, with only brief stops for refueling.

“I dedicated this run to the Cuban Five,” said Patt. “Just as I did not stop until I had finished the run, despite horrendous conditions (rain during the entire run), so too I pledge not to stop my efforts to free the Cuban Five until they too can enjoy the freedom to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Cuba. Also so too I pledge not to stop my efforts to see terrorists like Luis Posada Carriles deprived of the unwarranted freedom they enjoy thanks to the protection of the U.S. government.”

by Greg Lucero
Sept. 14, 2010

The Revolutionary Students Union of Utah Valley University was pleased to host Gloria La Riva for serious discussions about the situation of the Cuban Five and the current conditions of Cuba.

Many students, about 35, showed up to learn about the Cuban Five and were outraged at the injustices facing them. They signed the petitions to Obama demanding their freedom and visas for Adriana Perez and Olga Salanueva.

Later that evening Gloria La Riva gave an introduction to Cuba which inspired students to support and express solidarity with the socialist republic.

The students handed out 1,500 leaflets in the days before the events.
