MADRID, (PL).— The Madrid 2008 meeting of the World Social Forum (WSF) heard details on Sunday on the case of the Cuban Five, imprisoned for more than nine years in the United States for trying to prevent terrorist attacks against Cuba.

The demand for the release of the Cuban Five took place at the workshop on Latin America and the path towards Socialism, one of the topics of debate at the Madrid session of the WSF, which ended Sunday after meeting for three days.

Jeffereson Cardenas, a member of the Madrid Committee to Free the Cuban Five, presented the case and also referred to the threats and aggressions of the US government towards Cuba.

Cardenas detailed the legal process against Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labanino and Fernando Gonzalez, which drags on under appeal before the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta.

In making a call for the participants of the World Social Forum to take part in actions to free the Cuban Five, Cardenas announced the upcoming screening in Madrid of a documentary "El mayor amor" (The greatest love) and the book presentation of "Cronica de un silencio." (Chronicle of silence).

Both works are related to the Cuban Five and the irregularities and violations committed against them and their relatives both during and after their trial.

A poster exhibition and several documents on the Cuban Five case and solidarity with Cuba accompanied Cardenas’ presentation at the forum.

MADRID, (PL).—. El Foro Social Mundial (FSM) Madrid-2008 escuchó hoy una amplia argumentación a favor de la liberación de cinco luchadores antiterroristas cubanos presos en Estados Unidos.

La exigencia fue presentada en el taller América Latina rumbo al socialismo, uno de los temas incluidos en los debates de la sesión española del FSM que concluye este domingo aquí luego de tres días de trabajo.

El caso fue presentado por Jefferson Cárdenas, miembro del Comité por la liberación de Los Cinco en Madrid, quien también se refirió a las amenazas que penden sobre Cuba por la agresividad del gobierno norteamericano.

El joven español explicó en el taller pormenores del proceso que desde hace casi 10 años mantiene en la cárcel a Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, René González, Ramón Labañino y Fernando González.

Asimismo, llamó a los participantes en el FSM a incorporarse a las acciones de la campaña por la liberación de los antiterroristas cubanos y anunció la próxima presentación en esta capital del libro Crónica de un silencio y del documental El mayor amor.

Ambas obras están relacionadas con Los Cinco y las irregularidades y violaciones cometidas contra ellos y sus familiares durante y después del proceso.

La intervención de Cárdenas en el FSM estuvo acompañada de numerosos carteles y documentos vinculados al tema y a la solidaridad con Cuba.
