Billboards in Vancouver Demand Release of Cuban Five

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 27 (acn) The Canada-Cuba Friendship Association-Vancouver, in British Columbia, has put up two billboards demanding the release of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters in US jails.

The billboards have been displayed on local Vancouver thoroughfares, where they are visible to traffic and passers by, the report by CCFA-Vancouver explains.

The solidarity action takes place as Gerardo Herandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, known as the Cuban Five, have remained imprisoned in high security jails for nearly 10 years now. Next September 12 will mark 10th anniversary of their incarceration after they were given unjust and extremely long sentences by a biased Miami trial back in 2001.

The Cuban Five were arrested after they collected information on South Florida-based ultra-right organizations that have undertaken terrorist actions against Cuba over the past 4 decades.
