Jan. 6, 2014 Washington, Jan 5 (Prensa Latina) Participants in a world mass Twitter messaging denounced today the plot of the US media to manipulate the case of the Cuban antiterrorists jailed in that country since 1998, and demanded that President Barack Obama released them immediately. Internauts, political parties, media outlets and social groups from countries as Italia, Canada, Turkey, Venezuela, Mexico, Cuba and others referred to payments by Washington to journalists to carry out a hostile campaign in Miami and guarantee that Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez and Antonio Guerrero were sentenced. Those men and their compatriot Rene Gozalez, already released from prison, were arrested on September 12, 1998, while they were monitoring the actions by violent groups based in south Florida, from where actions as those that left more than 3,400 victims in Cuba in the last 53 years were planned. Rene Gonzalez was released from prison on October, 2011, after serving his sentence, and returned in May to his country, where he gave up his US citizenship, to put an end to an additional three-year punishment of being released on parole. The messages published in Twitter denounced that US journalists received federal money to distribute at least 1,000 written, radio and television peaces of information with negative influence about the trial and those accused. "Journalists of organizations based in Miami make money from cultivating hatred," a user of the mentioned social network wrote, while another user asserted that "if the case of the five Cuban antiterrorists were not politicized, they would have deserved homage for saving innocent lives." Numerous entries also emphasized the irregularities in the trials against those men, called their imprisonment shameful and urged Obama to listen to the increasing world demand to free them. The mass Twitter messaging is the first world initiative in 2014, in solidarity with the cause of the Cuban fighters and will develop during this whole Sunday, under the labels: #ObamaFreeThe5Now!; #ObamaHumanitarianGestureforThe5! and #ObamaGivemeFive. The last label is the most used by cybernauts to demand their freedom and was supported by foreign media outlets as Rebelion and the DF Gazette, of Mexican former Senator Yeidckol Polevnsky and the affiliate in Lombardy of the Italy-Cuba Friendship Association.
