Havana, Cuba, Dec 24.- The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, received in the Cuban capital a picture with th images of Hugo Chavez and his daughter Maria, made by imprisoned Cuban antiterrorist Antonio Guerrero.

The picture was handed to President Maduro by Rene González, one of the Five Cubans who were imprisoned in the United States for monitoring terrorist activities against Cuba. Gonzalez already served his 15 year sentence and returned to the Island.

The Cuban hero, Antonio Guerrero, is currently imprisoned at the Mariana Penal Institution, in the State of Florida. After learning of the death of President Chavez, Guerrero, a noted painter, asked for a photo of the Venezuelan leader, taken by Cuban photographer Alex Castro.

At the presentation, President Maduro spoke to Antonio Guerrero´s mother, Mirta Rodriguez, and his sister, Maruchy.

President Nicolas Maduro thanked the gesture as a symbol of Cuba´s love for the late Venezuelan leader and as an expression of the will to continue the struggle for the final liberation of the four anti-terrorists still imprisoned in the United States.

El presidente venezolano, Nicolás Maduro, recibió en La Habana una pintura al pastel con la imagen del fallecido mandatario Hugo Chávez junto a su hija María, obra del antiterrorista cubano Antonio Guerrero, preso en Estados Unidos desde 1998.

La obra pictórica -según informó el diario Granma- le fue entregada la víspera al jefe de Estado de manos del también antiterrorista cubano René González.

Guerrero junto a Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González y René González fueron encarcelados hace 15 años y sometidos a largas penas por las autoridades estadounidenses por dar seguimiento a grupos extremistas que organizaban y financiaban acciones terroristas contra Cuba.

En la actualidad, de ellos, sólo René González se encuentra en la Isla, tras cumplir con su sentencia y renunciar a la ciudadanía norteamericana.

En el encuentro estuvieron presentes además, Mirta Rodríguez, madre de Guerrero, su hermana Maruchy, y Olga Salanueva, esposa de René González, quienes explicaron a Maduro que Antonio había expresado su consternación por el fallecimiento de Chávez, ocurrido el pasado 5 de marzo.

Según refirieron al mandatario, Guerrero de inmediato solicitó a su familia que le enviaran algunas fotos para concebir una pintura con la imagen del líder bolivariano, para lo cual finalmente, se basó en una obra del fotógrafo cubano Alex Castro.

El presidente Maduro agradeció el gesto como un sentido homenaje a Chávez y como expresión de la voluntad de continuar la lucha por la liberación de los antiterroristas cubanos.
