Spanish Public Defender for Cuban 5

March 31, 2007
Reprinted from Prensa Latina

Madrid, Mar 31 (Prensa Latina) Jose Chamizo de la Rubia, a public defender in Andalusia, Spain, expressed his support for the Cuban Five and received Adriana Perez, wife of one of the Cuban anti-terrorist fighters imprisoned in the US.

Adriana, wife of Gerardo Hernandez, one of the Cuban Five, gave Chamizo a file with detailed information on the case.

Adriana told Chamizo the trial for the Cuban Five was fraudulent, as well as the decision of the appeal court in Atlanta, which annulled the decision to set them free, and how the US government manoeuvred to invalidate this decision.

Chamizo committed himself to give copies of the file to other 15 people defenders in Spain, to make decisions regarding the case of the Cuban Five.

He also showed a marked interest in relation to the visas denied by the US government to Adriana and Olga Salanueva to visit their respective husbands, Gerardo and Rene.

The "People's Defender" office is an institution with the mission to save the rights and liberties of citizens in the Spanish Constitution, is politically independent, and receives no instruction from any authority.

The meeting was also attended by Jose Luis Centella, in charge of International Relations for the Spanish Communist Party, Cuban Consul Magaly Goza and Ruben Abelenda, official of the Cuban Embassy in Spain.

Barcelona, Sevilla Back Cuban 5

April 1, 2007

Madrid, Apr 1 (Prensa Latina) The people from Barcelona and Sevilla reiterated Sunday their support to five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned in United States since 1998, in activities held with the wives of Gerardo Hernandez and Rene Gonzalez.

Adriana Perez, spouse of Gerardo, participated in an act held in Sevilla, while Olga Salanueva attended the activity held in the Hospitalet de Llobregat, a Barcelona locality with over 250,000 inhabitants.

Both women also represent the relatives of Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino and Fernando Gonzalez, the other three prisoners of the US government, accused without evidence of conspiracy in an illegal trial in Miami.

The US administration has denied seven times the visa so that Adriana, Olga and even the youngest daughter of the latter, Ivette, 7, can visit their loved ones, thus violating that country's Constitution, and legal and human rights.

The Denfensem de Hospitalet organization, bringing together over 70 institutions, with the support of the platform of Solidarity with Cuba sponsored the meeting, which was attended by the most extensive social sectors of the locality.

Both acts screened documentaries on terrorist organizations based in Miami, against which Rene, Gerardo, Antonio, Ramon and Fernando fought in their effort to thwart terrorist actions against the Cuban people.
