HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 11 (acn) Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez thanked Moscow on Tuesday for a recent declaration passed by the Russian Duma (Parliament) demanding the release of five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters who remain unjustly imprisoned in the United States.

“We appreciate the solidarity of the Russian people and particularly the declaration approved by the Duma regarding this injustice against the Five,” Perez Roque told Prensa Latina news agency.

He added that it is an expression of the feelings of justice and friendship that millions of Russians have towards Cuba.

Perez Roque also urged everyone to continue fighting for the release of Rene Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez and Antonio Guerrero – internationally known as the Cuban Five – who were arrested in 1998 for infiltrating anti-Cuba extremist organizations in South Florida that were planning and carrying out terrorist actions against the Caribbean nation.

As part of a two-day official to Russia that concludes on Tuesday, the Cuban diplomat met with the First VP of the Council of the Federation (Senate), Alexander Torshin, and by the VP of the Duma, Liubov Sliska.

La Habana, 11 nov (AIN) Felipe Pérez Roque, ministro de Relaciones Exteriores de Cuba, agradeció en Moscú el llamamiento de la Duma estatal rusa que exige la liberación de Los Cinco luchadores antiterroristas cubanos presos en EE.UU.

Agradecemos la solidaridad del pueblo ruso, en particular los pronunciamientos que sobre esta arbitrariedad ha aprobado la Duma estatal (cámara baja del Parlamento) de la Federación de Rusia, declaró el canciller a la agencia de noticias Prensa Latina.

Subrayó que esa decisión constituye una expresión de los sentimientos de justicia y amistad de millones de rusos hacia la Isla.

Pérez Roque exhortó a no cejar en la batalla porque se imponga la verdad sobre el caso de Los Cinco, como se les conoce en la campaña mundial por su excarcelación, y destacó que ya cumplieron 10 años de encierro arbitrario.

Indicó que Los Cinco son víctimas de una manipulación, de un juicio sin garantías, y están sometidos a condiciones de prisión que clasifican como trato inhumano y degradante.

El Canciller cubano dijo que se espera que esos prisioneros políticos sean puestos en libertad y puedan regresar al encuentro de sus familiares en Cuba.

Como parte de la visita que realiza a Rusia, Pérez Roque fue recibido por el vicepresidente primero del Consejo de la Federación (senado), Alexander Torshin, y por la vicepresidenta de la Duma estatal Liubov Sliska.
