Havana, Ene 5 (Prensa Latina) The imprisonment of the Cuban Five in US penal precints is another sample of cruelty and imperial arrogance, said former Peruvian congressman Gustavo Espinoza in this capital Friday.

"The US wants to punish Cuba by using the imprisonment of the Cuban Five," he said in a meeting with the press.

Espinoza, now the president of the Peruvian Committee for Solidarity with the Cuban Five, said that the initial accusations against the Cuban Five lack every support.

"That is the falseness and inconsistency of the US justice," he stated.

Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez and Gerardo Hernandez were arrested on Sept. 12, 1998 and sentenced to terms going from 15 years up to double life prison plus 15 years.

He added that during 2007, different actions were developed to demand the immediate release of the Cuban Five in a context in which the Peruvian government is a US allied.

He pointed that thousands of signatures supporting the cause of the Cuban Five to send them to the US Attorney General and the judicial authorities, and that hundreds of Peruvian women demanded that Washington grants Olga Salanueva and Adriana Perez, wives of Rene and Gerardo, visas to travel to the US.

These Cuban women have received the US government"s negative to enter in US national territory, violating the human rights of the Cuban Five and their relatives.

La Habana, 4 ene (PL) El encierro de cinco antiterroristas cubanos en cárceles norteamericanas es una muestra más de crueldad y prepotencia imperial, expresó hoy aquí el ex congresista peruano Gustavo Espinoza.

"Estados Unidos busca sancionar a Cuba en las personas de los Cinco" -como se les conoce mundialmente-, precisó en un encuentro con la prensa el también presidente del Comité de solidaridad con los antiterroristas de la Isla.

René González, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González y Gerardo Hernández fueron detenidos el 12 de septiembre de 1998 y sancionados a condenas que van desde 15 años de privación de libertad hasta doble cadena perpetua más 15 años.

Sabemos que las acusaciones iniciales contra los antiterroristas cubanos carecen de todo sustento, esa es la falsedad y la inconsistencia de la justicia estadounidense, sostuvo Espinoza.

Agregó que durante el 2007 en Perú se desarrollaron diversas acciones para exigir la inmediata liberación de los Cinco en un contexto en el cual el gobierno del país andino, contrario a la posición del pueblo, es aliado de Estados Unidos.

Puntualizó que el pasado año se recogieron miles de firmas en apoyo a la causa de los antiterroristas para enviarlas al fiscal general y a las autoridades judiciales estadounidenses.

Espinoza también manifestó que cientos de mujeres peruanas exigieron que Washington conceda visas para viajar de Cuba a Estados Unidos a Olga Salanueva y Adriana Pérez, esposas de René y Gerardo, respectivamente.

Ellas, en reiteradas ocasiones, han recibido la negativa de entrada a territorio norteamericano, una acción que viola los derechos humanos de los antiterroristas cubanos y sus familiares.
