HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 11 (acn) It is time to act, not wait, said in Havana on Tuesday representatives of solidarity-with-Cuba committees and other organizations around the world that demand justice for the five Cubans incarcerated in the US for their fight against terrorism.

The occasion was the presentation, at the Cuban Friendship Institute, of a 2009 calendar designed by friends of Cuba in Italy as an initiative in support of the release of these five men. The calendar features photographs and information on the Cuban Five and their case.

"This is a tribute to the resistance and dignity of Gerardo Hernández, Fernando González, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and René González and their relatives," said the coordinator of the Italian Justice for the Five Committee, Franco Forconi.

Cuban Friendship Institute Vice President Elio Gámez said the calendar was an effective way of getting the public opinion acquainted with the Five's case.

Graciela Ramírez, coordinator of the International Committee for the Release of the Cuban Five, noted that the case is going through a crucial moment, with a new president in the U.S. and the latest developments regarding its appeal.

"There will be no movement in the case if we do not put pressure on every way possible -through the media, in political circles, through lobbies and mass mobilizations," added the activist, while the president of the Italy-Cuba National Association, Sergio Marinoni, pointed out that supporting Cuba today demanded also support for the cause of the Five.

On behalf of the families of these anti-terrorism fighters, Magali Llort, Fernando's mother, thanked the Italian friends for the initiative and for their actions aimed at arousing peoples' consciousness. She said the role of the public opinion was decisive in the effort to obtain the release of the Five.
