HOLGUIN.— U.S. President Barack Obama must order the immediate and unconditional release of the Cuban anti-terrorist fighters who are still unjustly incarcerated in that nation, affirmed Ricardo Alarcón de Quesada, president of the National Assembly of People’s Power, in a message sent to the 300-plus participants in the 6th International Conference for the release of the Five and against terrorism.

This demand should plague him day and night, without rest, without tiring, Alarcón added in the message, in which he acknowledged that the rising wave of solidarity could have an influence on the U.S. president’s conscience and even force him to right this injustice.

The fact that self-confessed criminals Posada Carriles and Orlando Bosch are strolling around the streets of Miami or receiving tributes from local authorities is evidence that sponsorship of terrorism exists there and that Cuba continues to be subject to terrorist threats, he stated.

During the first day of the event – which goes on until Sunday – delegates reviewed actions undertaken in support of the Five and confirmed their will to continue circulating the truth in order to incorporate more people into the cause.

One of the speakers was Gloria la Riva, president of the U.S. National Committee to Free the Five, who spoke about the ongoing investigation to demonstrate to the world – with many arguments – that the journalists who most negatively influenced the case of the Five were paid agents of federal institutions.

Relatives of the imprisoned compatriots, including Mirtha Rodríguez and Irma Sehwerert, the mothers of Antonio Guerrero and René González, respectively, and Elizabet Palmeiro, the wife of Ramón Labañino, expressed their thanks for the support received.

El presidente de Estados Unidos, Barack Obama, debe ordenar la inmediata e incondicional excarcelación de los luchadores antiterroristas cubanos que permanecen injustamente en cárceles de aquella nación, afirmó en Holguín Ricardo Alarcón de Quesada, presidente de la Asamblea Nacional del Poder Popular, en un mensaje enviado a los más de 300 participantes en el VI Coloquio Internacional por la liberación de los Cinco y contra el terrorismo.

Este reclamo debe perseguirlo día y noche, sin descanso, sin fatiga, recalcó Alarcón en la comunicación en la que reconoce que el crecimiento de la ola de solidaridad puede influir en la conciencia del mandatario estadounidense hasta forzarlo a corregir la injusticia.

Que los confesos criminales Posada Carriles y Orlando Bosch deambulen por las calles de Miami o reciban homenajes de las autoridades locales, prueba que existe patrocinio al terrorismo allí, que Cuba sigue siendo objeto de amenazas terroristas, denunció.

En la primera jornada del evento, que se extenderá hasta el domingo, los delegados pasaron revista a las acciones realizadas a favor de los Cinco y ratificaron la voluntad de incrementar la divulgación de la verdad para sumar más personas a la causa.

Entre los oradores estuvieron Gloria la Riva, presidenta del Comité Nacional de Estados Unidos por los Cinco, quien abordó la investigación aún en curso para demostrar con abundantes argumentos al mundo que los periodistas que más influyeron negativamente en el caso fueron agentes pagados por instituciones federales.

Familiares de los compatriotas presos, entre ellos Mirtha Rodríguez e Irma Sehwerert, madres de Antonio Guerrero y René González, respectivamente, así como Elizabet Palmeiro, esposa de Ramón Labañino, transmitieron su agradecimiento por el apoyo brindado.
