Mexican leader calls for liberation of Cuban anti-terrorists

"This is a case that goes beyond demanding their freedom: it has to do with other styles of resistance, of confronting the violence exercised by the United States without using arms and with a new vanguard concept," he affirmed. The young PRD politician said that the procedure utilized to silence the Cuban fighters is yet another attempt by the United States to undermine democratic movements and everything linked to the socialist ideal. "For that reason," Gutiérrez said, "we have to direct our actions to breaking the silence of the media and achieving the liberation of the Five.

por Yuith Díaz Gazán México, 16 ene (PL).— La lucha por liberar a Cinco antiterroristas cubanos presos en Estados Unidos debe fortalecerse y liderar el contexto social mundial, dijo hoy Juan Carlos Gutiérrez, dirigente del Partido de la Revolución Democrática (PRD) de México. Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, René González, Ramón Labañino y Fernando González, en cárceles norteamericanas desde el 12 de septiembre de 1998, son un ejemplo internacional de entereza por mantener incólumes sus principios, declaró a Prensa Latina. En entrevista exclusiva, el secretario de Asuntos Juveniles del PRD aseveró que mantener la batalla por la excarcelación de los Cinco, como se les conoce en las campañas internacionales, permite estrechar los lazos de hermandad entre Cuba y México. “Es una forma de patentizar nuestros orígenes en la resistencia civil pacifica, porque ellos no estaban en Estados Unidos para hacer terrorismo, al contrario, para salvaguardar vidas humanas”, agregó. Ellos son parte de una estrategia para detener un conjunto de sucesos que sí tenían que ver con la posibilidad de terminar con miles de seres humanos y diezmar la población cubana, señaló. Gutiérrez recordó que en la visita a Cuba en abril de 2007 como parte de una delegación del PRD en la Campaña de Solidaridad por la Liberación de los Cinco, patentizó su compromiso con la causa común. Gerardo, Antonio, René, Ramón y Fernando fueron condenados por impedir planes terroristas contra la isla, organizados desde Miami, Florida, por grupos anticubanos, y sancionados a penas que van desde 15 años de privación de libertad hasta doble cadena perpetua. “Este es un caso que va más allá de exigir la emancipación: tiene que ver con otros estilos de hacer resistencia, de enfrentarse a la violencia ejercida por Estados Unidos sin usar armas y con un nuevo concepto de vanguardia”, afirmó. El joven político del PRD alegó que el procedimiento utilizado para acallar a los luchadores cubanos, es un intento más de Estados Unidos por socavar los movimientos democráticos y todo aquello ligado al ideal socialista. Por esa razón, detalló Gutiérrez, hay que encaminar las acciones para romper el silencio en los medios de comunicación y alcanzar la libertad de los Cinco.

MEXICO, Jan 16 (PL).—The fight for the release of the five Cuban anti-terrorists incarcerated in the United States must be strengthened and waged in a global social context, affirmed Juan Carlos Gutiérrez, a leader of the Mexican Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD).
