Havana, Nov 26 (acn) A committee for the release of the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unjustly imprisoned in the United States was created during the 2nd Galician Meeting in Solidarity with Cuba that took place over the weekend in Santiago de Compostela.

According to Prensa Latina news agency, representatives from several political and social organizations and friendship groups condemned the aggressive policy of the US government towards the island during the event that was called by the Francisco Villamil Cuban-Galician Friendship Association.

Participants made a call to strengthen the work to make Galician people aware of the truth regarding the case of Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Ramon Labañino, internationally known as the Cuban Five.

"In front of the silent complicity of the mainstream media, we have to work through the creation of a Committee for the release of the Cuban Five in Galicia," reads a resolution approved during the meeting.

The text also denounces the aggressiveness of the US government against Cuba in its efforts to undermine the Cuban Revolution and the sovereignty of the Cuban people.

It also makes a call to fight the manipulations and defamatory campaigns of capitalist mainstream media against Cuba.

Madrid, 25 nov (PL) El II Encuentro Gallego de Solidaridad con Cuba creó un comité por la liberación de cinco antiterroristas cubanos presos en Estados Unidos y denunció los crecientes ataques del gobierno norteamericano contra la isla.

La reunión se celebró la víspera en Santiago de Compostela entre representantes de diferentes organizaciones políticas, sociales y de amistad con Cuba convocados por la Asociación de Amistad Gallego-Cubana Francisco Villamil.

Los participantes llamaron a fortalecer el trabajo sobre la opinión pública en torno al caso de Gerardo Hernández, René González, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González y Ramón Labañino, encarcelados hace más de nueve años.

Frente al silencio cómplice de los grandes medios de comunicación hay que actuar mediante la creación a nivel gallego de un Comité por la libertad de los Cinco, dice una resolución aprobada en la reunión.

El texto también denuncia la agresividad de Estados Unidos contra Cuba a través de todo tipo de medios, para tratar de socavar su Revolución y el derecho de autodeterminación de su pueblo.

En ese sentido, destaca las reiteradas resoluciones de la Asamblea General de Naciones Unidas, que por abrumadora mayoría exigen el cese del bloqueo impuesto contra la isla desde hace más de 47 años.

Igualmente, resalta la necesidad de combatir el bloqueo informativo, la manipulación de las consciencias y la difamación existente sobre la realidad de Cuba por parte de los medios de información capitalistas.
