HAVANA, Cuba, Jan18 — Fabio di Celmo, who died in 1997 as a result of a terrorist attack against Havana’s Copabacana Hotel, inspired Italian artist Rosa Penso, who gave on Monday to the museum of Playa municipality a painting she made with the use of the Merletto de Biurano technique.

The creator explained that she was interested in remembering the young man whose life was taken away by terrorists covered up for by the US government.

The painting, conceived in an old Venetian technique, was given to Fabio’s father, Giustino di Celmo.

Giustino expressed his appreciation to the author, who came from Italy to deliver this beautiful work of fine arts on his son, killed on September 4, 1997.

He said that this gesture opens his heart and soul and will serve to strengthen fraternal relations between the two peoples even more.

Victor Hugo Pares, director of the Marcha del Pueblo Combatiente center, acknowledged the action of this artist, who is also a faithful defender of the cause of the Five Cuban Heroes incarcerated in the US for fighting terrorism.

The painting, he said, will swell the funds of the museum; it reflects great human sensitivity and it’s a way to call the attention of those who admire it for its beauty and content.

Giuliana Grando, Secretary of the Vittorio Tomais Solidarity-with-Cuba Association in Venice, sent her greetings and a special congratulation to participants in the ceremony, for paying tribute to a man who is already a symbol of the struggle against crime and the US impunity.

Magali Llort, the mother of Fernando Gonzalez, one of the five Cuban Heroes unjustly imprisoned in the United States along with his brothers in struggle -Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez and Ramon Labañino-, was among the people invited to the ceremony.

La Habana — Fabio Di Celmo, víctima en 1997 de un atentado contra el Hotel Copabacana, en esta capital, inspiró a la artista italiana Rosa Penso, quien entregó el lunes al museo municipal de Playa un cuadro hecho en la técnica Merletto de Burano.

La creadora explicó que fue su interés recordar al joven, a quien manos terroristas apañadas por el Gobierno de Estados Unidos le arrancaron la vida.

Entregada a Giustino Di Celmo, padre de Fabio, la obra fue concebida en una antiquísima técnica veneciana.

Giustino agradeció el gesto de la autora, quien llegó desde Italia para entregar tan hermoso trabajo plástico sobre su hijo, quien murió el cuatro de septiembre de 1997.

Expresó que este hecho abre su corazón y su alma, y servirá para estrechar aún más las relaciones de hermandad entre ambos pueblos.

Víctor Hugo Pares, director de la institución cultural Marcha del Pueblo Combatiente, reconoció la acción de la autora, quien es además una fiel defensora de la causa de los Cinco Héroes cubanos prisioneros en EE.UU. por combatir el terrorismo.

El cuadro, dijo, pasará a engrosar los fondos del museo, es de gran sensibilidad humana y una manera de llamar la atención de quienes lo admiren por su belleza y contenido.

Giuliana Grando, secretaria del Círculo veneciano de solidaridad con Cuba Vittorio Tommasi, envió un saludo y felicitación especial a los participantes en la actividad, por rendir tributo a quien es símbolo de la lucha contra el crimen y la impunidad estadounidense.

Entre los invitados se encontraba Magali Llort, madre de Fernando González, uno de los Cinco Héroes de la Isla prisioneros políticos en el Imperio, junto a sus hermanos de causa: Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernández, René González y Ramón Labañino.
