Ecuadorian Socialists: Release The Five

Sept. 29, 2007
Reprinted from Prensa Latina

Quito, Sep 29 (Prensa Latina) Ecuador's socialists demanded on Friday the release of five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters held in US prisons and condemned violations committed against them by Washington.

In a letter addressed to the US Attorney General's Office, the Socialist-Broad Front party of Ecuador demands the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez, with organization president Gustavo Ayala urging US justice to respect their human rights, as they did nothing more than prevent terrorist actions against the Island.

Ayala warned of the White House double standard: it holds these anti-terrorist fighters while it says it gives priority to the fight against this scourge.

If Washington's discourse was consistent, they would understand that what they did was an act of legitimate self-defense against US-tolerated, encouraged mafia activity, says the letter.

We demand human treatment and the immediate release of these Cuban patriots, concludes the document.
