BRASILIA.— Member of the Cuban Communist Party Central Committee, Jorge Risquet, has delivered a series of lectures on the relations between Africa and the Americas and Cuba’s solidarity with the African sister nations from 1961 to date, at the University of Florianópolis, in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, reports the Prensa Latina news agency.

Risquet noted that among the internationalist combatants in Africa are three of the Cuban Five, imprisoned in the United States, and he spoke of their unfair sentences and the harsh incarceration they have been subjected to for almost eleven years.

In this regard, the professors and students attending the conference unanimously agreed to demand that US President, Barack Obama, immediately releases Gerardo, Ramón, Fernando, Antonio and René.

This series of lectures given by the Cuban political leader were organized by the Institute of Latin American Studies of the University of Florianópolis, where the prestigious Brazilian intellectual Nildo Ouriques is the rector.

Risquet spoke of the massive and prolonged genocide perpetrated by the colonial powers in Africa, and praised the rebellious spirit of the African slaves, the Cimarrons, the rebellions and conspiracies, and their participation on our struggles for independence.

BRASILIA.— El miembro del Comité Central del Partido Comunista de Cuba Jorge Risquet dictó conferencias magistrales sobre la interacción entre África y América y la solidaridad de Cuba con los hermanos pueblos africanos desde 1961 hasta hoy, en la Universidad de Florianópolis, en el estado brasileño de Santa Catarina, informó PL.

Risquet destacó que entre los combatientes internacionalistas en África, se cuentan tres de los Cinco Héroes antiterroristas cubanos, prisioneros en Estados Unidos y expuso la injusta condena y el cruel cautiverio a que han sido sometidos durante casi 11 años.

Al respecto, profesores y alumnos participantes en la conferencia acordaron unánimemente demandar del presidente de Estados Unidos, Barack Obama, la liberación inmediata de Gerardo, Ramón, Fernando, Antonio y René.

Las conferencias magistrales del dirigente político cubano fueron auspiciadas por el Instituto de Estudios Latinoamericanos de la Universidad de Florianópolis, el cual preside el prestigioso intelectual brasileño Nildo Ouriques.

Risquet habló sobre el masivo y prolongado genocidio cometido por las potencias colonialistas en África y relató la rebeldía de los esclavos africanos, los cimarrones, las sublevaciones y conspiraciones y su participación masiva en nuestras guerras de independencia.
