LUANDA, October 1.— Numerous demonstrations of support and solidarity were received on Monday in Angola by relatives of three of the Cuban Five, the anti-terrorists unjustly imprisoned in the United States. The visit is the first stop on a tour that also includes South Africa and Namibia.

Prensa Latina reported that during their visit, speakers recalled various instances when René González, Fernando González and Gerardo Hernández, as internationalist combatants, participated in helping the Angolan, Namibian and South African nations to win and maintain their sovereignty.

For that reason, the Angolan governing party, the Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), its youth division (JMPLA), the Angolan League of Friendship and Solidarity with the Peoples (LAASP) and the Cuba-Angola Friendship Association presented them with Certificates of Merit.

Representatives of the Angolan National Assembly, the Angolan Women’s Organization, the Methodist Church of Angola and the Association of Cadets who attended and graduated from school in Cuba joined in with expressions of solidarity for Magali Llort, mother of Fernando; Adriana Pérez, wife of Gerardo; and Irma González, René’s oldest daughter, throughout their visit.

In South Africa, the Sunday Independent newspaper dedicated an entire page to the case of Ramón, René, Gerardo, Fernando and Antonio, something unprecedented in that country’s media.

And in Rome, Italy, a seminar was organized in that country’s Chamber of Deputies, where Fabio Marcelli, deputy secretary of the International Association of Democratic Jurists, explained the unjustified limitations on defense rights in the case of the Five, and the violation of their right to due process, protected by the Eighth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

All of these activities are part of the International Campaign in Solidarity with the Cuban Five and the fight against terrorism, which is taking place in 115 countries, where 315 committees are fighting for their freedom.

LUANDA, 1 de octubre.–– Numerosas muestras de apoyo y solidaridad recibieron este lunes familiares de tres de los Cinco cubanos antiterroristas presos en cárceles de Estados Unidos, tras su llegada a Angola, punto de partida de una gira que abarca además Sudáfrica y Namibia.

Según PL, durante la visita fueron recordados los diferentes momentos en los que René González, Fernando González y Gerardo Hernández, como combatientes internacionalistas, ayudaron a los pueblos angolano, namibio y sudafricano a convertirse en naciones soberanas.

Por ese motivo, el gobernante partido Movimiento para la Liberación de Angola (MPLA), su división juvenil (JMPLA), la Liga de Amistad y Solidaridad de Angola con los Pueblos (LAASP) y la Asociación de Amistad Cuba-Angola, les otorgaron Diplomas de Mérito.

Representantes de la Asamblea Nacional, de la Organización de la Mujer Angolana, de la Iglesia Metodista de Angola y de la Asociación de Cadetes de ese país graduados en Cuba, se sumaron a las expresiones de solidaridad que han recibido Magali Llort, madre de Fernando; Adriana Pérez, esposa de Gerardo; e Irma González, hija mayor de René, a lo largo de su periplo por territorio africano.

Entretanto, en Sudáfrica, el periódico Sunday Independent dedicó una página completa al caso de Ramón, René, Gerardo, Fernando y Antonio, un hecho sin precedente en la prensa de ese país.

Mientras en Roma, se reporta que la injustificada limitación del derecho a la defensa y la violación de un debido proceso de acuerdo a la Octava Enmienda de la Constitución de los Estados Unidos en el caso de los Cinco, fueron expuestos por Fabio Marcelli, vicesecretario de la Asociación Internacional de Juristas Democráticos, durante un seminario realizado en la Sala del Refectorio de la Cámara de Diputados de Italia.

La actual Jornada Internacional de Solidaridad por la Libertad de los Cinco y de lucha contra el terrorismo se ha extendido a 115 países, donde hay constituidos 315 comités que luchan por excarcelar a los patriotas cubanos.
