RICARDO Alarcón, president of Cuba’s Parliament, has warned of a new maneuver designed to divide the Cuban five, political prisoners in the United States, and reiterated that their release depends on President Barack Obama.

At the Museum of Natural Sciences in Havana, Alarcón inaugurated the exhibition “Birds for unity” by Antonio Guerrero, one of the Five, saying they “have been able to make art, spirituality and culture flourish, and they are paradigms, as we would like our sons and daughters to be.”

He noted that the U.S. Supreme Court is to announce in the next few days whether or not it will review the case. With respect to that, the Miami media is proposing to release four of them and maintain the double life sentence for Gerardo Hernandez, in order to satisfy the spirit of vengeance of the pro-annexation mafia.

“This is something that we should categorically reject,” Alarcón explained to the audience, which included relatives of the Five and participants in the 5th Image of Nature Festival in Memory of Rosa Elena Simeón, with exhibits that include Tony’s.

Alarcón said that Obama could withdraw all the charges against the Cuban anti-terrorist fighters, who have been victims of the violation of U.S. laws, and “a simple signature of his would be enough to release them.”

That message must be multiplied and spread, he said, referring to his call on the U.S. president and the Miami media’s attempt to divide the five prisoners. Alarcón thanked the organizers of the art event, which has been dedicated to the Five and the deceased Dr. Simeón.

Mirta Rodríguez said that beyond the artistic value that her son’s paintings may have, the most important thing is the love and dedication with which he made them, and that when she asked him, he proposed the title of “Birds for unity.”

Along with mothers and wives of the Five, those present included Julio Camacho Aguilera, winner of the 2008 National Environmental Award.

The 5th Image of Nature Festival continues until next Friday at the Museum of Natural Sciences (AIN).

Ricardo Alarcón, presidente del Parlamento de Cuba, alertó sobre una nueva maniobra dirigida a dividir a los cinco cubanos antiterroristas prisioneros políticos en EE.UU., y reiteró que ponerlos en libertad depende del presidente Barack Obama.

En el Museo de Ciencias Naturales, en La Habana, Alarcón inauguró la exposición "Aves por la unidad", de Antonio Guerrero, uno de Los Cinco, de quienes dijo "han sido capaces de hacer florecer el arte, la espiritualidad y la cultura, y son paradigmas, como queremos que sean nuestros hijos y jóvenes".

Recordó que en los próximos días se sabrá si el Tribunal Supremo de ese país revisará o no el caso, acerca del cual ahora la prensa miamense propone conceder libertad a cuatro de ellos y mantener la doble cadena perpetua sobre Gerardo Hernández, para satisfacer el espíritu de venganza de la mafia anexionista.

Eso es algo que debemos rechazar del modo más categórico, expresó el Presidente de la Asamblea Nacional del Poder Popular ante familiares de Los Cinco —como se les conoce— y de los participantes en el V Festival Imagen de la Naturaleza in Memoriam Rosa Elena Simeón, del cual forma parte la mencionada muestra de Tony.

Alarcón advirtió que Barack Obama puede retirar todos los cargos contra los antiterroristas cubanos, víctimas de violaciones de las leyes norteamericanas, y basta "con una simple firma suya para ponerlos en libertad".

Hay que multiplicar y extender este mensaje, dijo en alusión a su llamado al Presidente de Estados Unidos y al intento divisionista de la prensa miamense, por lo cual agradeció a los organizadores del encuentro que lo hayan dedicado a ellos y a la desaparecida doctora Simeón.

Mirta Rodríguez señaló que por encima del valor artístico que pudieran tener las pinturas, lo más importante es el amor y entrega con que las hizo su hijo, quien —a una pregunta de ella— propuso ponerle por título a la muestra "Aves por la unidad".

Además de madres y esposas de Los Cinco, se encontraba Julio Camacho Aguilera, Premio Nacional de Medio Ambiente 2008.

El V Festival Imagen de la Naturaleza sesionará hasta el viernes próximo en el propio Museo de Ciencias Naturales. (AIN)
