"Year 50 of the Revolution"

Dear friends of solidarity:

Another year passes, and with it another chapter of the brutal injustice against us and our families. It has been an especially difficult year, marked not only by the latest in the juridical barbarities of this case, but also by the irreparable losses that are added to the personal price that we have had to pay, for the crime of defending a small, noble and courageous people against terrorism.

Even so, in face of it all, we end this year embued with an optimistic spirit. In the face of the blindness of our captors, the solidarity of all of you has multiplied in quality and in numbers. Far behind are the initial days of sporadic messages and isolated voices. Today you have become a human wave that demands all over the world, in public squares, from unions, social organizations, parliaments, and governmental seats, that we be granted justice.

We are overwhelmed and humbled by that solidarity. What our victimizers will never attain with their blackmail, arrogance, their scorn for their own laws and cowardly abuse of power, you have already achieved with your noble friendship and selfless solidarity. We lower our armor before you, we open our hearts and give up all resistance, laying aside our spirit of struggle and the pride of our moral superiority over those who abuse us. And doing so we modestly bow our heads and say: Thank you very much! We will never let you down!

Dear friends of the Five:

Another year is ending, a year of tireless struggle, of individual and collective efforts, of multiple and effective initiatives. It is another year of advance in the campaign for our freedom and the return to our Homeland.

If, despite the silence of the mass media, our case is more and more known throughout the world, and more voices are joining the demand that we be freed, it is due to the efforts of all of you, to the mobilization of energies, time and resources that you carry out in support of our cause.

We have learned a lot about what your efforts represent, which are realized in adverse and many times hostile conditions. Your spirit of solidarity, your commitment to the struggle and the resoluteness with which you face the difficulties and obstacles, are a permanent lesson for us and they strengthen us in our resolve to resist and win.

May my most profound sentiment of gratitude reach every one of you, wherever you may be in the world.

I wish you all a Happy New Year, and may 2009 be another year of advances and triumphs for the causes that we defend.

In the name of the Cuban Five I wish you all a Happy New Year and a 2009 with much success! I congratulate you also for the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, which is also your revolution.

The year 2008 was a year of intense work, and the next one will be without a doubt very interesting. I am certain that in 2009 we will be able to harvest the fruits of the systematic work of solidarity that all our friends have been developing for so many years, and we hope that it will be a year in which we come closer to victory in our struggle for justice.

On behalf of all our families, and especially on behalf of Adriana and myself, I thank you all for your example of dedication and sacrifice. Congratulations to all and our appreciation to everyone.

"Año 50 de la Revolución"

Queridos amigos que nos apoyan:

Se va otro año, y con él otro capítulo de la brutal injusticia contra nosotros y contra nuestras familias. Ha sido un año singularmente duro, marcado no solo por la última de las barbaridades jurídicas de este caso, sino por irreparables pérdidas que se añaden al precio que en lo personal hemos tenido que pagar, por el crimen de defender a un pequeño, noble y corajudo pueblo contra el terrorismo.

Sin embargo, frente a ello, terminamos este año imbuidos de un espíritu optimista. Ante la obcecación de nuestros captores, la solidaridad -que es decir todos ustedes- se ha multiplicado en calidad y en número. Atrás han quedado los días iniciales de mensajes esporádicos y voces aisladas. Hoy ustedes se han convertido en una marea humana que desde todo el mundo exige en plazas públicas, sindicatos, organizaciones sociales, parlamentos y sedes gubernamentales que se nos haga justicia.

Esa solidaridad nos abruma y nos hace sentir humildes. Lo que nunca lograrán nuestros victimarios con sus chantajes, su arrogancia, su desprecio por sus propias leyes y su cobarde abuso de fuerza, ya lo han logrado ustedes, con su noble simpatía y desinteresada solidaridad. Ante ustedes bajamos nuestras corazas, abrimos nuestros corazones, renunciamos a nuestra resistencia, ponemos a un lado nuestro espíritu de lucha, deponemos la altivez de sabernos por mucho moralmente superiores a quienes nos agreden, inclinamos modestamente nuestras frentes y decimos:

iMuchas gracias! Jamás dejaremos de ser dignos de ustedes.

Concluye otro año de lucha incansable, de esfuerzos individuales y colectivos, de iniciativas múltiples y efectivas. Otro año de avance de la campaña por nuestra libertad y regreso a la Patria.

Si a pesar del silencio de los medios de comunicación masivos, hoy nuestro caso es cada vez más conocido en todas partes del mundo, y cada vez son más numerosas las voces que se unen al reclamo de que seamos liberados, se debe al esfuerzo de ustedes, a la movilización de energías, de tiempo y de recursos que realizan en apoyo a nuestra causa.

Aprendemos mucho de lo que representa el esfuerzo que ustedes hacen en condiciones adversas, muchas veces hasta hóstiles. Su espíritu de solidaridad, su compromiso con la lucha y la firmeza con que enfrentan las dificultades y los obstáculos son una lección permanente para nosotros y nos fortalecen en nuestra decisión de resistir y de vencer.

Llegue a cada uno de ustedes, en cualquier parte del mundo en que se encuentren, mi más profundo sentimiento de gratitud.

Les deseo a todos un Feliz Año Nuevo, y que sea el 2009 otro año de avances y de triunfos para las causas que defendemos.

¡Felicidades!

A nuestras compañeras y compañeros les deseo en nombre de Los Cinco un feliz fin de año y un 2009 de muchos éxitos. Les felicito además por el 50 aniversario de la Revolución Cubana, que es también de ustedes.

El 2008 fue un año de intenso trabajo, y el próximo será sin dudas muy interesante. Estoy seguro de que en el 2009 podremos cosechar algunos frutos del sistemático trabajo de solidaridad que todos nuestros amigos han venido desarrollando durante tantos años, y esperamos que sea un año en el que nos acerquemos a la victoria en nuestra lucha por la justicia.

En nombre de todos nuestros familiares, pero en especial de Adriana y mío, les doy las gracias por su ejemplo de entrega y sacrificio. Felicitaciones a todos, y nuestro agradecimiento también a todos.
