Nelson Mandela reading Tony Guerrero's book of poetry, Desde Mi Altura (From My Altitude)

I read Gerardo's message, which conveys the feelings of we Five, and a small photo of Nelson Mandela comes to my mind, which somehow Gerardo was able to obtain when we suffered those first 17 months of total isolation.

That example of loyalty and resistance of Nelson Mandela helped us overcome those extremely hard conditions.

Gerardo guarded that photo fervently. I'm not sure if somehow the
guards found it and threw it away. In the cell searches, in the hole, we could lose the few belongings we had.

But ideas cannot be killed or discarded. They never die.

Nelson Mandela will live forever in the heart of all of us who dream and struggle for a better world of peace and solidarity.

Queridos amigos:

Leo el mensaje de Gerardo, que encierra el sentir de nosotros cinco, y viene a mi mente una pequena foto de Nelson Mandela que por alguna via Gerardo pudo conseguir cuando sufrimos aquellos primeros 17 meses de total aislamiento.

Ese ejemplo de lealtad y resistencia de Nelson Mandela nos ayudo a vencer aquellas durisimas condiciones.

Gerardo cuido de esa foto con mucho celo. No se bien si algun dia los guardias llegaron a encontrarla y si la botaron. En los chequeos de las celdas, en aquel hueco, podiamos perder las pocas pertenecias que teniamos.

Pero, las ideas no se pueden matar ni botar, no se mueren nunca.
Nelson Mandela vivira por siempre en el corazon de todos los que sonamos y luchamos por un mundo mejor, de paz y solidaridad.
